Sharon Hill, PA

Sharon Hill (no relation – haha), Pennsylvania. This is where blues singer Bessie Smith, who was the highest paid black entertainer in the 1920s and 30s is buried. She died in a car wreck in Mississippi in 1937. About 10,000 attended her funeral. Her first husband absconded with funds for her headstone, so she lay in an unmarked grave until 1970, when another famous blues woman named Janis Joplin helped pay for a proper marker.
