I believe that the thousands of messages presented here, taken collectively, have a value to measure the zeitgeist of the United States of America in the early 21st century. How many times did the words “abortion,” “environment,” or “jobs” repeat? What issues were important to people from Alabama? Was (and is) what people wrote influenced by the previous evening’s newscast, or that morning’s headlines?
If you’re an academic, social scientist, writer, historian, artist, or armchair political enthusiast and would like a (searchable) text-version of the messages, please email me. If there is enough interest I’ll work to transcribe them.
